Siblings Melissa Inglis, Rebecca Coleman, and Matthew Coleman may have forged different professional paths since graduation, but their love for a few things remains shared; the Gold Coast, reaching exciting goals, and each other.

Whether you might call them the musketeers, the tripod, or the dynamic trio, the Colemans are an undeniably tight-knit unit and will tell you that the best support in life comes from within the family.

Melissa, Rebecca and Matt all reflect fondly on their own experiences at All Saints and thank their parents for the opportunity to attend.

“Diane and Martin – hand on heart – sending us to All Saints was the best sacrifice they ever made,” says Rebecca.

I’m sure you will agree, after reading a brief detailing of their accomplishments in this edition, that the Colemans are doing both their alma mater and their parents proud.

Melissa Inglis (née Coleman) – Class of 2006

Melissa, the eldest Coleman sibling, is a Partner at Rose Litigation Lawyers in Bundall where she is a leader in several commercial litigation fields including property disputes, building and construction, and insolvency.

During her extensive legal career, Melissa has achieved remarkable outcomes for clients across both simple disputes and complex multimillion-dollar Supreme Court litigation.

Her passion for the law was first kindled during All Saints’ beloved Year 7 Canberra trip which included a visit to the High Court of Australia.

“I recall walking into the High Court when it was sitting and I pointed to the judges on the bench and said, ‘That will be me one day’,” recalls Melissa.

“As it turns out, I love working directly with clients, so I have no desire to be a barrister or judge, but that’s where it all started.”

Melissa says the best thing about litigation is finding solutions for people and businesses who are stressed and going through difficult times.

“At the end of their matter, when we have achieved their outcome and they’re able to move on with life and business, you can really see them become an entirely different person,” she says. “It’s as if the weight comes off their shoulders and I can see the direct impact that our work has on their lives.”

Melissa has been a partner with Rose Litigation since 2019 and last year took equity in the firm.

Over the next few years, Melissa is excited to spearhead projects that will continue the firm’s stellar growth trajectory and support its culture as a “place where people can do their best work and find fulfilment in each day”.

In 2023, Melissa will also enjoy a beautiful full circle moment when her eldest son starts his All Saints journey – two proud future Talgai and Hobartians just like mum, aunty Bec and uncle Matt.

Rebecca Coleman – Class of 2008

Middle sibling Rebecca always thought she’d be destined for a career outside of the typical professional lane.

Favoured subjects like art, home economics and business sparked her interest in the tertiary path of communications at Bond University.

After graduation, Rebecca stepped into a few different marketing roles before landing her current gig as the Marketing Manager for Ray White Surfers Paradise (RWSP), the largest real estate agency within the Ray White Group network.

“I was very fortunate to come into a team that had a great foundation, and while I may have been a little shy of the experience at the time, I was able to learn and adapt very quickly,” she says.

“Being a part of one of the biggest real estate agencies in the country means I get to communicate with different people from all walks of life, backgrounds and opinions – it’s both a great challenge and a great privilege.”

Among Rebecca’s crowning achievements at RWSP is leading the campaign for the agency’s annual auction drive called The Event, where more than 100 different properties go under the hammer in a single day.

“There’s a massive six-month marketing program that goes along with that which is one of my biggest tasks each year,” she says. “In 2022, being such a boom market, The Event saw the biggest outcome in its 30-year history.”

Rebecca feels lucky to have experienced a supportive education at All Saints and says it has helped her achieve confidence and success throughout her career.

“No matter what your academic focus might be, whether its science, or a trade or the creative arts, nobody is ever made to feel less at All Saints because they aren’t a top student,” she says. “Whatever you are good at, there is a program that can allow you to excel and be acknowledged.”

Matt Coleman – Class of 2010

Matt answered a call to creativity halfway through his original degree in multimedia and changed his study minor after discovering his love for film through a surfing friend.

He now operates his own company, Matt Coleman Films, and has a flair for capturing the ocean, nature, and human interest through a lens.

While he still calls the Gold Coast home, his business has taken him all around the world including to the United States, Europe and Africa.

“Earlier this year I shot a music tour with a Gold Coast band called Lastlings, we went from the east to the west coast of America and Mexico as well,” he says.

“In August, I also went to Croatia and shot a tourism video for a local company. It was epic, as I spent the days travelling on a stunning boat between the islands. It was a dream job.”

This special love for the natural world gives Matt a chance to experience an untouched side of life that most people don’t normally see.

“When you have a camera in your hand, often people will allow you to experience different things, more so than the average person,” he says.

“You can push the envelope to get that little bit closer; closer to a lion in the wilderness, closer to the action on stage, closer to meeting interesting people.”

While running a business in a highly competitive industry can be a tough slog at times, Matt encourages anyone who loves film to give it their all.

“Networking is absolutely huge,” he says. “Chat to anyone you can, no matter what industry or what field they’re in, and find a niche that you love.”
